I am a Senior Data Scientist at Oldbaum Services, a global leader in wind energy consultancy, specialising in remote sensing. Since our founding in 2005, we have provided over 50GW of technical services within the renewable energy sector.
With a strong foundation in machine learning, data science, and software development, I create and implement cutting-edge, scalable, and data-driven solutions to support international clients in their transition to a greener, more sustainable future.
I began my academic journey with a Master’s in Astrophysics at The University of Glasgow. Through being awarded multiple research scholarships, I developed a keen interest in data analysis and machine learning, which quickly became the central focus of my research and ultimately earned me the Masters Thesis Prize.
This passion led me to London, where I joined the Data Intensive Science PhD program at UCL. There, I received specialised training in software development and real-world machine learning applications, including a 6-month internship at ASOS. This exposure to the eCommerce industry, particularly in natural language processing (NLP), inspired my transition from academia to the private sector.
I took my first step into the commercial world as a data analyst in Glasgow, applying my knowledge of data-driven eCommerce at Trespass. Now based in Stirling, I leverage both my academic and commercial experience to drive innovation within the renewables sector.
At Oldbaum Services, I play a key role in maintaining our position as a leader in the fast-evolving wind energy sector.
I oversee our company’s transition to cloud-based data storage, managing systems to handle 20+ years of datasets and enabling real-time data analysis and KPI visualisation for clients.
I collaborate with international organisations and research institutes to advance industry standards, and I have led the deployment of 20+ scanning LiDARs in regions including Japan, South Korea, the Philippines, and the UK.
A significant portion of my role involves writing, maintaining, and optimising our Python codebase, adhering to best practices such as testing, version control, and continuous integration.
As a senior staff member, I guide a small team through code reviews and check-ins, ensuring our software and deliverables meet the high standards expected by clients. I also conduct specialised analyses on complex systems, providing clear reports and insights for critical long-term decisions.
Outside of work, I enjoy playing music. I play piano, violin, guitar and sing.
